An exceptional piece of American illustration history: a complete, original issue of Collier's Weekly from July 4, 1908, featuring an iconic cover illustration by Maxfield Parrish.

The Illustration
Parrish's cover depicts a soldier in an exaggerated, caricature style that combines light satire with the artist's distinctive sense of humor. The result is brilliant. Created as America was emerging as an independent power on the world stage, the image arguably alludes to Europe being prodded into recognizing the United States as such.

Historical Significance
This cover recalls a pivotal moment in the formation of our national identity. The articles within serve as time capsules of American cultural history while the colorful advertisements offer a nostalgic glimpse into early 20th-century life.

Condition
Very good for its age—complete and 100% original. The piece shows honest wear consistent with 118 years: some edge discoloration, light foxing in corners, and a couple of tiny tears along the cover edge. The illustration's colors remain strong with only minor fading and toning in the white background. The binding is intact with a few tiny flecks of paper missing along the spine. No missing pages. For being over a century old, this issue is in remarkable condition.

Dimensions
Approximately 14.5" × 10.5"

A worthy piece for collectors of Maxfield Parrish, Golden Age illustration, or American cultural ephemera.
