One of the most sought-after and collectible advertisements that Maxfield Parrish ever created, this stunning Fisk Tires ad from the back cover of the September 1917 issue of The New Country Life magazine rarely comes up for sale outside of a few auctions.
The Artwork
Inspired by an illustration Parrish did for Mother Goose, the ad depicts a whimsical court jester soaring atop a tire, one hand gripping each side with legs held straight out in front. Above and behind the figure stretches a dreamlike landscape featuring a far-off castle perched on rocky cliffs—a signature Parrish composition. Below the tire, the text reads: "Fisk Tires - The Modern Magic Shoes."
